Marston’s Inns and Taverns were in the fourth year of a challenging development programme with an energy and CO2 target emissions reduction of 15%. Marston’s were interested in becoming an environmental frontrunner within their sector and sought advice from b:ssec on how best to proceed with their environmental initiative.

Strategic Design Advice - HM PRISON SERVICE

b:ssec undertook a Carbon Trust supported Strategic Design Advice Project for HM Prison Service and the Ministry of Justice’s National Offender Management Service (NOMS) . The aim of the project was to develop a phased strategy for prison construction projects to reduce carbon emissions from prisons over the next ten years.

Due Diligence

An Opportunity Assessment (OA) was provided to Flagship Media where energy saving opportunities were proposed for consideration. As a result of the OA consultation Flagship Media decided to implement the proposal to remove electric heating and provide a VRF heat pump system. Flagship Media approached 2 local companies and obtained 2 proposals for the design, supply and installation of an office wide VRF system.

Opportunities Assessment

An initial opportunities assessment survey was carried out for Channel 5 Broadcasting. The agreed objectives of the assessment were to identify and prioritise up to 10 actions that could be taken up by the site to save energy, carbon and money. Channel 5 requested that the proposed actions included staff awareness issues and policy recommendations.
